Better to have a wide base of payers, than a small one...the whole idea of insurance is to share risk. The bigger the subscriber base, the less per risk per subscriber. It's great that Vermont has seen the light. It would be better if the nation as a whole adopted single payer protection.

I'd think that it all comes down to ratio of healthy ppl to chronically ill people in any given population. I'd suspect that Vermont probably has a pretty healthy population given the outdoor recreation available, but either way I'm a bigger fan of letting States decide what works for them. Just like legalizing drugs should be a local matter, not a federal one.
