Well anyway, I'm busy changing all those stupid, expensive, floresent curly bulbs and replacing them with the old bulbs. Now I can see my computer !! LOL

What makes you think I give two fucks about the environment? I think if you review the relevant posts my points have always been that 1) the rate at which the Earth receives energy exceeds the rate at which it radiates energy back into space; 2) the rapid and persistent release [of] fossil carbons is a major contributor to this imbalance. I have no strong opinions on what can be done to solve the problem. So go ahead, throw your mercury bulbs onto the trash heap (but not too close to home) and screw in your incandescents...if that's what gets your rocks off. Me, I'd rather some strong muscle man with a huge, throbbing dong screw me up the....oh but that's a different line of thought entirely...never mind.

George Carlin pretty much has it right. As to the "problem" of the current climatic heat imbalance, it will eventually correct itself; i.e. the climate will seek a new dynamic equilibrium.

It will be a shame if our civilization doesn't survive the "correction," but hey you got to sacrifice something for the rights of individuals, corporations and governments to do whatever shit they please.

The issue isn't the science. Our global climate is out of balance. The release of fossil carbon into the atmosphere in the form of carbon dioxide is a major contributor to that imbalance. These are well understood, well established and widely corroborated claims. The [uncertain] issues are, "What, if anything can we or should we do about it?" Suppose we decide that something should be done to attempt to circumvent the economic, health and political disasters that are likely to accompany continued climatic heat imbalance. Whatever it is we decide to do, it will obviously require the cooperation of all industrial nations, all industries and all major populations. It will likely provide some with the opportunity to profit while stressing most of us [with] additional economic and quality of life burdens. I'm rather pessimistic that we have it in us as a species to undertake such sacrifices for the sake of our fellow "tribes." And so we'll all go down the shit hole. So frankly, I don't know what to recommend or what we should do. Sure, I'll vote for regulations and support treaties to regulate greenhouse production and encourage alternative energy sources, but I'm pessimistic that we'll have sufficient political success to make an[y] difference. So I'm largely apolitical about the issue of what to do about climate change. Now my conservative friends who generally agree with science on other issues, find themselves in a nasty bind. They have to agree that if there is a solution to the human problem of surviving climate change with our civilization in tact, then we have to do a lot of "liberal" things, like set regulations, cooperate with other nations, ask citizens to sacrifice, maybe even levy a tax or two!!! There just aren't any viable totally free market solutions; at least I haven't heard any. So instead of accepting the political solutions, or taking the pessimistic stance that there's probably no workable solution given our political dispositions, they deny the science. Irrationally clinging to one's ideology in the face of disaster and denying the rational is a form of worship [and also a form of fear]: it is the worship of an ideology [and a fear of being wrong about the universal application of one's adopted ideology].

I don't give a shit i[f] someone criticizes the various political proposals related to the issue of climate change. As I've said, I'm largely apolitical on the issue. What I find irritating is people who deny the science because it offends their political sensibilities.

I think there is a point here, regarding the negative outlook of conservatives. I often see people of those viewpoints, calling poor people 'lazy', and such terms. I also see more fear re terrorist threats, and such. So much of that comes down to how we see the world, in terms of negativity and positivity. Do I see the world as people mostly like me, who just want basic happiness, or do I see a world full of enemies, and lazy people, who just want to live free off my hard work?

Even in religion, there is a view of God as the punisher for the world's evils, or more positive view of God as Love, mercy, compassion, etc. Did Jesus live to teach us love and compassion, or was it so he could judge those with wrong behavior at the end of time? Its all right there, negative vs positive. I'm sure there's a few exceptions out there but, it works great as a general rule.
