Default Transgender day of remembrance 2010

The Transgender day of remembrance is observed every 20th of November. That is just around the corner.

I strongly encourage everyone who actually cares a wit about the women that you all admire on this board and what we deal with to check this website out.

Various sorts of commemorations are held around the world for this day.

In Chicago we had a certain event for years...that I haven't heard any firm information about happening. So many programs have been a victim of the lack of donations and cost cutting these days. i.e. one rather important youth program here in Chicago, Tyra was unceremoniously suspended a while back. It would be a shame if the night of the falling stars has suffered the same fate.

What's going on in your cities wherever you are to mark this day?

I'd LOVE a list of good transgender charities, what they do and what their goal is. No religious affiliations please.

Off the top of my head.

    Trans Youth Family Allies. http://www.imatyfa.org/

Transkids purple rainbow foundation http://www.transkidspurplerainbow.com/ (as seen on 20/20 a few years back.)

Many LGB charities also do good work for transgender people. i.e.

    PFLAG http://community.pflag.org/

Those are the ones that leap to my mind.

In my area we have the Central Texas Transgender Society. They have a web page with some useful information and links. http://www.cttgs.org/resources/resourcelinks.html

It's truly disgusting and upsetting reading all those deaths. Most are murdered and tortured. So sad.
