I guess the moral lesson is that it doesn't matter whether we are Dem or GOP, we are all hypocrits when it comes to taking action. As what people always say "words are cheap".

Dems are sometimes mis-guided on their execution, but, at least, they try to be human. Do we ever ask why the "homeless" are homeless? Gops are just plain selfish. I guess that's what capitalism is, but since Gops identified themselves as Christians, what is wrong with giving alms to the poor? Hmm.. such a conundrum.

For the record, I don't agree with the concept of minimum wage and govt funded unemployment benefits.

A joke? I thought it was a morality tale.

    Why can't it be both?

I remember one time when I pulled up to stop light with a guy standing there with a sign indicating he wanted money for food. I motioned him over and handed him some food. He was not pleased.

'cause morality tales are too heavy handed to be funny.

This is where you are just as blinded by personal politics as everyone else. Many Dems. are very generous when handing out "other" peoples money...not always so generous when handing out their own.

All GOPers don't identify as christians (That would be the christian wing of the party)..do all Democrats identify as radical Socialists (a wing of the Dem party)?

..and I'm not much of a christian..don't care for very religious types myself..but they do tend to give more to charities as a group than the average person.

We have a local guy with a "Will work for food" sign that stands in the same place every day and takes handouts. He's been doing this for years. One day we offered to buy him lunch, dinner, and give him some cash if he'd help us move some equipment around, nothing huge, just something that we could have used an extra set of hands with. He told us to fuck off. That's not a joke and it defines my perception of panhandlers.

Don't be so narrow-minded as to assume that a homeless guy is "blitzed in the gutter". There is a surprising amount of hunger and homelessness in this country, and it doesn't all stem from alcoholism and drug abuse.

Well..I assume he's talking about the people you run into on the street. Most of the people you run into on the street here in New York..seem to suffer some type of mental illness...sometimes aggravated by alcoholism and drug abuse..but not always. Then you also have the scammers...squeegee men..the "Can I have your attention..."!!..annoying people on the subways (some of who are also drug abusers and alcoholics).
The homeless people you are talking about aren't always as obvious as that...or out in the open.
