Movies don't really scare me anymore. Games however, DO!

I just played Silent Hill 4: The Room, and it completely freaked me out!

IMO, there are different kinds of "scary"...there's the eerie, creepy kind...the jump out of your seat kind...and others

but while on the subject, if you like the eerie variety, check out-

The Other, circa 1972 (not to be confused with the The Others with N. Kidman, which I thought was okay

I also think all of the classic horror films starring Lon Chaney are some of the best

also, to name a few other favorites....

    Psycho

    Hellraiser

    Halloween

    Night of the Living Dead

    Alien

    The Ring

    Freaks

    4) Evil Dead

Huh? I laughed my way through that one. That's my only criticism.

Though the Blair Witch concept (and hype) was excellent.

maybe you're thinking about the second one

there are 2 Evil Dead films.

i think the 2nd one ( Evil Dead Part 2: Dead by Dawn )
was a lot more aimed at humor than the first one.

in fact ever time i think about Evil Dead 2 , i tend to think
about " Dead Alive " and " Shaun of the Dead ".
because they splice both humor and horror together.

I agree with Night Of The Living Dead, but you had to see it as a midnight movie as a kid to get the full impact.

Beyond that, I saw a preview for a japanese movie recently that freaked me out. Some girl who kept a guy in a bag and tortured him, or what remained of him. I have no idea what the movie was, but it was a creepy preview.

    no shit , me too.

i was totally caught off guard by George Romero's flick.

just like the Exorcist , i saw it when i was a teen and couldn't
    sleep for two nights.

speaking of the Exorcist , to this day i've never experienced a
horror movie that could have this much affect on the general public
    the way it did .

i recently saw a show on E-Hollywood channel
about the "Curse of the Exorcist " in regards all the problems they
    had making the film ...

and also how a large number of the audience were literally
throwing up sick to their stomach , fainting inside the theater
or crying & running to get outside the theater doors.

Amazingly , even over 30 years , it's still the standard by
which all horror movies are measured by .

Damn, forgot about "Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer", Arriana. It's got two of the most disturbing scenes of all time. Although these days they probably aren't considered that bad at all.

I actually named my two cats Henry and Ottis, just because that movie was so effective in being creepy. I love cats, but ya gotta admit there's just something sinister about them.

I've never been the type to scare too easy over physical threats, so the more disturbing psychological stuff is what gets/got to me.

    JACOB'S LADDER
because, even though it isn't really horror, it's like a bad acid trip that just won't end, leaving you tense and on the edge of your seat right up to the end.
    THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE
because, as a kid, I lived in an area where we had stretches of deserted road like the one she staggers out to at dawn. I remember seeing this movie when i was young and getting a chill as I tried to imagine her fear on that isolated stretch of road with that psychopath breathing down her neck.
I'd toss in AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, just for it's quirkiness and the fact that lycanthropes were always my favorite "Halloween" monster - I just like the concept of that inner beast breaking free

Gotta be The Exorcist III and Jacobs ladder. I was 8 when Exorcist III came out and I remember the Jesus statue opening its eyes in the preview scared the shit outta me. I couldnt sleep without a nightlight for 2 weeks.
