Wasn't around for it myself if it was done recently.

I can understand why the girls wouldn't want the reminder, but I don't think you can erase the past. It would be like trying to get to know my uncle without ever know what his life was like as a cop or a soldier. I could know some of him but never REALLY know him without some of those stories too.

On the other side of the coin, if 'before and after' pics aren't out there for folks to see, no one knows what is possible. The journey the girls I know of were all made a lot harder than they needed to be because of everyone hiding the success stories. The few role models out there were Jerry Springer actors and drag queens. Not necessarily bad people, but not the women they hoped to grow up to be.

Having seen and been shocked by the degree of transformation possible, I think a lot of girls could really use the encouragement, without having to prove themselves part of the club first.

i agree with what you had to say..i mean, the question can be disrespectful to some girls but i don't really mind..that's why i have my transition video available on youtube to share with girls just starting out so they can see what's possible although i'm no where where i want to be..there is still a lot i want to accomplish..but i get a lot of messages from girls telling me that i'm such an inspiration to them and that feels good..what i will NOT share is my birth name..there is NO reason as to why anyone needs to know that.

Stories are one thing, pictures are another entirely.

Seems most people have no problem talking about stories from their childhood (I say childhood because it seems most the people here started early). I know I talk about what life was like for me back then all the time, I just do it without visual aids, names, or anything like that.

On the other side of the coin, if 'before and after' pics aren't out there for folks to see, no one knows what is possible. Does Springer show before pictures? Its been so many years since I've seen even 30 seconds of his show.

Before pictures are, truthfully, everywhere. Pretty much every surgeon who does surgeries like FFS or breast aug these days has sets of before & after pics on there websites, there are so many blogs of trans people out there showing before, during and after pictures, so many personal pages, to say nothing of trans support sites... if someone only wants to see before & after pictures, that's very easy to do without asking someone (or a group of people) about theirs.

The problem is that when these threads go down, usually its "hey, does everyone have any before pictures of trans porn models that they can post here?" They're not asking the girls to post them, if they feel like it, but they're asking the guys who post here whatever they have in before pics floating around on their hard drives, hoping they'll post some without permission.

Then there's the risk of people... not just the guys btw, using old names or pictures as a form of belligerency in the future.

HA is not, has not, and probably will not be a support site. If girls are looking for support in just starting out, find a support site. I realize some people may find HA first (though I'm not sure why that would be...), which is why I've proposed the mods put a sticky at the top of the forum listing support sites & forums for people to go to.

The other risk, is that pictures can be misleading. If all people see are the girls who ended up looking passable & attractive, it can cause the impression that its easy to end up looking passable & attractive when, in practice, that's not always the case (and in many cases, far from it in fact). If there is one thing that trans sites are notoriously bad at, its cheerleading everyone who is contemplating transitioning as if everyone will always end up looking "perfect" in the end.

When people are constantly told it will be a fairy tale, see nothing but good stories/pictures, and are egged into rushing fulltime under a constant stream of "oh girl, you look fine- you won't even need hrt to pass!" exaggerations- they then go fulltime to get the shock of being clocked/read everywhere, family members being uncomfortable, employers freaking out, spouses divorcing them... and suddenly they're in a bad medieval fairy tale with gore, angst, and depression instead of a cheesy disney movie.

Now I think most people transition because they want or have to, not based on whether or not they might be hot or passable, there's nothing wrong with that as long as people keep it real. Setting someone up for that kind of a shock however, will only make things more difficult.

And maybe its easier to withdraw from life
With all of its misery and wretched lies
If we're dead when tomorrow's gone
The Big Machine will just move on
Still we cling afraid we'll fall
Clinging like the memory which haunts us all
