Boy, we could really get ourselves in trouble here with some amateur psycho-analysis. Maybe talk about how these girls being born in bodies that don't feel right to them don't take as good of care of them, or have self-esteem issues and don't value themselves or their lives as much as they should. But I don't think it really has that much to do with it. When I started smoking it was kind of a misfit, social outcaster thing to do. And all us social outcaster types got together to do that thing before school, and at lunch, or whenever we could sneak one. I'm sure these girls started doing it in adolescence, socially, just like most other smokers. It isn't really surprising to me, I don't imagine many of these girls were big into sports, or a member of the mathletes, or chess club, or whatever. So, people are inherently social animals, and when you're trying to find your clique, that "cool kid" outcaster thing has it's own appeal.
The reason so many girls smoke is likely a combination of rebelliousness and that fact that poorer classes of people, to which a lot TS girls belong because they've been socially ostracized for their choice, smoke more. I don't think it has anything to do with self esteem. In fact, some of us know how important it is to quit when transitioning.

That said, while many argue that the insanely high taxes for cigarettes will go to fund whatever new health care system we devise, their argument is nulled by the fact that these poor people will actually be forced to quit by the expense, thereby eliminating the tax revenue necessary to operate that system.

FYI, I was an editor of two separate high school newspapers and Editor-in-Chief of one for a time until I had to quit school. I was stuck in the foster care system and wanted out. Long story.

    No chess club indeed. Check.

PS: It's not psychoanalysis, it's socioanalysis, so don't worry about it. lol

As long as they're smoking bones (such as mine) I'm fine with it!

Smoking is glamorous and sexy. I'm sorry. I'd rather look cool and die young, than worry about being old with healthy lungs. If you don't like that I smoke, start running before I exhale a big puff of Marlboro in your face. lol

    I roll my own.

I'm not smoking because I'm recovering from surgery, not sure if I will start back up when I am done. I would like to believe I won't, but I have my doubts.

Fact of the matter is, smoking is an extremely enjoyable activity, and that is why we keep doing it.

if it doesn't affect their breath I don't have a major problem with smokers

I'm not about to lecture a 25 year old person about dangerous personal habits when I have a few of my own
