He's a cool dude.
When I was at the Worldcon in San Jose I heard that he was going to appear (Purely by accident, as he had no idea what the Worldcon was). He was filming in Vancouver for the X-Men flick and was scheduled to appear in San Diego for a Star Trek shindig. In the hand-off (Sony to Paramount) someone mentioned the San Jose Worldcon, "Conjose".
He broke from Sony and Paramount for one hour-ish and appeared at the SJ arena for an impromptu Q & A with over 1500 people who'd only just heard of his appearance that day.
To shouts of "Gurney is so fucking cool!" (Dune) and "Thank you for Jeffrey!" He stepped up and gave a great speech. He "...just happened..." to have 35mm reels of dailies from both X-Men and ST in his pocket, which made his stop even more popular.
Contrary to the rules of the event, he did take the time to answer a few questions and he truly captured the audience. A genuinely sincere man. His greatest surprise: In a building filled with SF fans, not one asked a Star Trek related question.
I haven't seen a man/actor of this caliber since I met the late Barry Morse in Springfirld, MA many years ago. True to his profession and characters, yet recognizing that it is the fans that make his career.
