    Default Transparent (Good Read)

For T's and those who love them, especially... this is good for light reading.
Though it did weigh heavily on an overly-sensitive me, emotionally.

[When Cris Beam first moved to Los Angeles, she thought she might put in just a few hours volunteering at a school for transgender kids while she got settled. Instead she found herself drawn deeply into the pained and powerful group of transgirls she discovered. In Transparent she introduces four of them—Christina, Domineque, Foxxjazell, and Ariel—and shows us their world, a dizzying mix of familiar teenage cliques and crushes with far less familiar challenges like how to morph your body on a few dollars a day. Funny, heartbreaking, defiant, and sometimes defeated, the girls form a singular community. But they struggle valiantly to resolve the gap between the way they feel inside and the way the world sees them—a struggle we can all identify with. Beam’s careful reporting, sensitive writing, and intimate relationship with her characters place Transparent in the ranks of the best narrative nonfiction.]

It might have developed more since Cris Beam worked there.

but it read like an alternative high school.
    that was severly underfunded.

I read this book in a little under a week. I couldn't put it down. Your girls really suffer.

Thanks for the tip. It helps also to have books available for those that may wish to have greater understanding. There are many out there that just dismiss whole classes of people as "trash" etc. But books like this give a human face and story about very special people. It's always good to know some un the world are seeking greater understanding.

Being a youth is challenging in and of itself, throw in trans and
synergistically and exponentially the challenges go up.

It's great that there is a book that looks at this issue, it will
be helpful to parents, school personnel and youth alike.

Alyssa, thanks for bringing it up.
