is he wearing theatrical makeup, like for an awards show or something like that?
In the pic the OP posted, you can see the discoloration, either because of makeup or the skin disease. maybe just bad makeup.

I would not be surprised if that is his disguise... What if the " wacko" is his mask? Rick Baker is the genius behind many of Hollywood's special effects, including "Thriller"... What makes you think Michael didn't create this persona so that people would not know him when he wanted to just chill out like the rest of us?
