This is just ridiculous...

1st Olivia. Dumb has always meant unable or unwilling to speak. Still is the top 2 definitions in Websters, my 1956 edition states that stupid is a US colloquial use, and only recently because of that use has been come to be taken offensively.

2nd The Boxcover. Welcome to the age of editing. MSNBC, the Daily Show did it to make Bush look more stupid. FoxNews does it to make Obama look stupid. READ the damn print! The original post editted the cover by omission, it follows in the same same sentence "...and only knows one way to ask sucking and fucking the camera guy." No offense Olivia, that can be part of the fantasy about a deaf girl, she has no way to communicate her desires so she uses her body. He pointed out your condition and your slutty vampish ways to overcome it...FANTASY. Not reality. (Reality would be giving you a pen and paper if I really didn't know why a beautiful girl would show up for the next Top Model and she couldn't speak...the whole plot point lacks credibility)

3rd The Production Line. So it cost pennys to redo the insert. All of you arguing this point do not know at what stage those inserts are. If the are inserted, cellophaned, and boxed for shipping/storage then the cost is considerably more than pennys.

4th Ageism. Too often the young these days "OMG" that older people have no idea what their IM abbrev. mean. How can adults and people over 40 be so stupid when it is so obvious to them what "cheddar and benjamins" are. Well welcome to your own ignorance for not knowing what was commonly known only 40 years ago. The language of my own youth may or may not return to its original meaning where "wicked, bad, awesome" doesn't mean exceptionally good or cool and returns to meaning "evil, not good, causing terror". Words are indeed mightier than the sword because too often people look for the worst in them.

I completely agree that it was a terrible, horrible choice of words. I personally view the use of capitalization on those two words was use to emphasize the condition meaning not the intellectual meaning (think about it, if deaf were capitalized and dumb wasn't, it would read in meaning differently)

I agree that "deaf and unable to speak her desires" would have been a better choice. Afterall, the next line only has the word "ask" in it and could have taken a few of those words if length was a consideration.

I would assume any lawsuit based on the language used on the cover would fail horribly as the word "dumb" is the correct term for a person unable to speak.
I would assume any lawsuit on the language used in any IM Olivia sent would fail too as it is clear by the context of the "or else" that no physical threat of harm was intended.

Again poor choice of words. Fully agree that Olivia has a right to expect that anything not already package would be reprinted. Would recommend that anyone with the "star power" to diva it up and get final edit rights or whetever one would call it. I also fully understand how Olivia would expect that the vast majority may misinterpret the use of that word and how she could be sensitive about it due to the overwhelming use of the word to mean inferior intellect.

im very glad it has all been worked out for every one not just for devils, but for olivia as well it was a terrible choice of words ... i shot for devils my self yesterday with tom and he was just not happy with any of it and at once he was telling me had already spoken to the owner of devils and she was not happy and had already gotten with steve to change it. I guessss it just hasent been change on the site but he did ask me to please come on here to let olivia know all was fixed and done and he him self was very sorry to read what was written about her and well its all said and done lets hope it never happens again to anyone else . I feel there is just no reason to ever make some the brunt of a joke when its something that person can not help nor control weather is really was a choice of bad words or a cheep ploy for shock value or bad strategy .... so again im very very happy its all been cleared up .....

Yeah I'm glad Tom expressed that and Thank mu Holly Sweet for ur effort to understand from both sides as it should be listened to instead of just one side and I love ya and many thanks to u and Tom too basicially its all about education of others culture. This has been the case as long as I can remember; the word "mute" was often used as a less controversial substitute, but many speech-impaired people regard this as offensive too.

I understand the need for punchy marketing copy, but this was just crass. I'm glad for Olivia that it was sorted, and credit to Meghan for making it public.
