California being split and made into 4 states?

California: Breaking up is hard to do
California's budget problems are kind of like the boy who cried "wolf." Nobody pays attention anymore. Well, hardly anybody. A radical idea that would split California into four distinct states garnered some attention on the Buzz. Commenters chimed in with their thoughts. Some even suggested names including Calidormia (for the "bedroom communities and burbs all across the state") and Califarmia (for the huge agricultural regions). The commenter notes that Calinormia could make for a nice state, but, alas, normal doesn't exist out west. Experts argue that the proposal doesn't have a chance of working, but we say "never say never." This is the state the elected Conan the Destroyer, after all.

It would be a horrible disaster of epic proportions to split CA up.

What they really need to do is get rid of those stupid ballot initiatives, all they've done is destroyed the state. The voters can't handle the responsibility... giving the people democratic power can only create problems, like proposition13, or proposition8.

The founding fathers hated democracy for a reason.

Visalia's Bill Maze is pushing the idea again.

The former Assemblyman believes California should be split in half, creating a 51st state.

The liberal coastal communities would be one state... the conservative central part of California would be another state.

It's an idea that's been kicked around before. Now, it's back.

Who knows how much of California will disappear or will be left? Or if there's even a California after that? One can never tell what a giant quake do, right?
