Forced disfiguring of genitalia without anesthetic for infants is justified using things ranging from religion to the argument that it's easier to clean, to (and this is the newer argument) statistics showing its harder for circumcised guys to get aids. Its an abusive practice that, even if it did prevent some aids risks, isn't justifiable under the way it is currently performed. I could find some old person with advanced dementia, beat them with a crow bar, and they won't remember it by the next day, yet anyone with even a small amount of decency would agree that the beating would be unethical, even though the victim will have no lasting memory of it. Similarly, cutting skin off of babies without painkillers or anesthetic is justified by the "well, they'll never remember it" logic that can't be used to justify assaults or rapes. If it's wrong to do it to adults, its wrong to do ti to infants. And I prefer circumcised penises, I just can't condone avoidable, needless suffering. /soapbox. /ot.
