Do a search, this topic has been discussed several times on cleaning b4hand.
However, I would want to add a point. Prep cleaning and "taking an enema" are not the same thing. One involves flushing out the entire lower intenstines, the other just the rectum and lower colon from fecal matter. There's a big difference between the two with regard to the body's reaction and intestinal health.
If you watch some of Belladona's outake and behind the scenes videos, you would see what's happening. They are usually sitting on the commode or standing up in a shower and repeatedly using a small syringe or fleet enema bottle filled with tap water. Nobody is doing that laying down or in a position for the water to go deep, just enough to clean out the lower end of the colon. You'll also notice in the behind-the-scenes video that they frequently "stretch" for about a half hour b4 shooting. They're sitting around talking about everything under the sun while acclimating to a buttplug or graduated toy. During the shoot it appears as natural as can be and you don't see the wincing, pained expression, or reaching back to restrain the inserter. These are pros with many hours logged on their bottoms, yet even they need to dialate to work comfortably.
Everybody is different. Most ppl receiving on a regular basis have been doing it for quite some time. For some, it's much like unlearning a natural gag response and learning to relax on insertion. For others, it almost feels natural. For many people, if something hurts or is unpleasant the first time, they are hesitant to try again or have to overcome that inital bad experience. If you've never bottomed b4, you don't need the baggage from a bad experience.

Obviously from a cleanliness standpoint it would be best to give yourself an enema (or do it with your partner) beforehand to make sure your back passage is cleaned out.
However, this is not exactly good for your intestinal health. Just like any other part of your body, your rectum and colon have a fairly delicate balance, and flushing them out all the time can affect their ability to do their jobs.
