It is exceptionally rare for someone to contract aids view oral sex. In fact there was a study a few years ago in San Francisco that tried to find how common it was using gay guy couples, and they couldn't find a single instance of someone contracting hiv via oral sex in their study.

It becomes an issue of "how much risk is too risk." Can someone get hiv via oral sex? Absolutely.

If you want to get really picky, there are documented cases where people have contracted HIV just from french kissing, yet I don't see most people stopping that anytime soon (or switching to dam's to do so). Now you're probably thinking "how can french kissing transmit hiv to a partner?"

Well there are many factors that can make that more likely- bad dental hygene, open wounds in the mouth, fresh piercings that haven't healed yet- etc.
