The problem in SD is that the cheapest SFH's in bad areas start around $250,000. And anything that you might actually want to live in starts around $650,000, and anything in sight of the ocean starts at $850,000 to a million.

JATG is dead on here. A home for a quarter of a million here in not the most desirable of areas, will likely buy you two, or possibly three (Gasp!), similar homes at places such as Dallas or Atlanta. They are expensive here, so if you are thinking of relocating here, jump on it within the next year.

Yes - UCSD is a great school. Jessica goes there.

Problem is last year they had something like 59,000 applications for 6,000 freshman slots and over 9,000 for something like 300 transfer slots.

It's very difficult to get into as a transfer student unless you have a 4.0 or graduate from a local community college that has a transfer guarantee. (There is - or was - a special program for that, not sure if it's still in place.)

So Alyssa - move here to SD, go to City College, then transfer. You will be set for life. Might even meet a rich guy in La Jolla...

I'm considering UCSD as a grad school. I don't think the competition is as fierce. If it was, they wouldnt have sent brochures to my school.

i just figure its a broad enough major (after Lib.arts) to be able to xfer if eventually find something i actually like.

I try to go down there at least four times a year, usually during baseball season to watch the Dodgers/Padres rivalry. It's cool; I could even see myself living down there, especially in one of those new apartments (?) near Petco Park. I have lots of fun in the Gaslamp, and I enjoy taking a walk in the open air malls in Misson Valley (and Horton Plaza as well of course). Coronado Island isn't bad either!

However, I'm still LA for life!

I actually looked at a model in that building once. It would have been great for like a corporate party pad! I think it was 1.2 million.
