Fucking crime... I can't take it anymore!
It's getting ridiculous...
This morning I'm coming home from dropping Jessica off at her college and as I turn off the freeway there were like 20 police cars. The other ramps were blocked and the whole freeway going the other way was blocked off by police cars. WTF?
Luckily I could make the turn toward our complex. As I turned I see a cop on the side of the road with a clipboard, at his feet was a stainless semi-auto pistol lying in the road. WTF?
Now to set the rest of the scene. Jessica and I are going to be moving soon. We currently live in a nice area of San Diego called Mission Valley that is mostly large condo communities and the regional shopping centers. Where we currently live the crime has been getting worse. Even in our guarded complex both my cars have been broken into inside the garage. Several cars have been stolen out of the complex right past the stupid guards. There was a shootout about a year ago down the street at the 7-11. And now this.
We have been looking to buy a house on Mission Bay, figuring we'd get away from the crime and be able to have our boats readily accessible and have a great party pad. But it seems no place is safe anymore.
So on the 6 o'clock news what happened was that a couple's BMW was carjacked outside their house by three armed men right in the middle of the residential area that we are planning to move to. Then they apparently had a shootout with the cops on the freeway about 3 blocks from our current house.
Fucking crime is everywhere. Maybe we will move to Montana.
Sigh,
TS Jamie

Almost zero gun crime in the UK and it's quite difficult to live far from the sea.

It's just gonna get worst almost 5 million people laid off. Luckily I'm not affected but I got robbed twice in past 3 months so I do feel the pain.

City of Philadelphia. By 13th Oct 2007, 315 murders (mainly guns) for 2007. That's Philadelphia only, not the US total. Philadelphia is ranked as the 6th worst city in the US.
So the answer to your question is no, I don't want to re-think.
Where do you live?

The policewoman killed (by a gun) about a year or so ago was wearing the body armour of choice in the UK - stab proof rather than gun proof - because we've got relatively low rates of violent crime, and the majority of what we've got is knife related.
So which part do you live in? Is it some sort of gun alley? Do you have 1st hand experience of gun crime?

So far, you seem to be relating it to murder per capita alone.
Yes, we have fewer murders, but year on year, whether you see it or not, gun-crime is on the increase.
A recent news story (there were plenty of others to choose from)
