Hey, some of my friends in Brooklyn bands are having a late holiday benefit show for Sex Workers Awareness. It's Friday Jan-9 at Don Pedro's in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Kind of a mishmash of punk/ rock/ soul/ garage/ indie/ jazz throughout the night. Not specifically TS-oriented, but figured I'd throw it out there. Carry on!

January 9th Runny (Belated) Holiday Benefit Show

New York, NY- December 8, 2008 – Runny, a popular local NYC band, will be hosting an all-star holiday benefit show January 9, 2009 at Don Pedro’s in East Williamsburg New York. Six bands with popular local followings will perform at the event that will be hosted by a Surprise MC and DJ’d by Lemon Cookie.

Profits from the show will go to Sex Work Awareness (SWA). This organization is a new non-profit organization that aims to empower the Sex Work Community by building the capacity of sex worker-serving and sex worker member-based institutions as well as the skills and resources of sex workers themselves.

SWA also conducts research about sex workers and the sex industry to better understand it, develop public education initiatives, and advocate for the rights of sex workers. The organization was founded by $pread magazine staffers, Eliyanna Kaiser, Audacia Ray, Susan Rohwer, and Kevicha Echols. For more information about SWA, visit: http://www.sexwork101.com/about-swa/

The show’s line-up will include the following popular local bands: Runny, The Whores, The Naked Heroes, Big, Victor Bravo, East West Quintet, and Genan

A surprise MC will be on-site and, in between sets, the benefit will be DJed by Lemon Cookie.
