One thing that rips my heart out and then stamps upon it are the songs from The Last Five Years. Its a musical that are mainly solos except for two songs and its about a couple and their relationship over the last five years as the title implies. The thing that is innovative about it is the first song is sung by Cathy at the end of the 5 years so its a sad song about how she is hurting from the relationship. The second song jumps to Jamie where he's singing about he just met this amazing girl and is quite in love with her. And then it just progresses backward and forward through time respectively. All of the videos of it are of poor quality video recordings but the actual sound track is way better than any actual performance.

I thought I'd go necromantic on this thread since it's been an annoying day and I've been listening to a lot of Nick Cave, the king of rip your heart out who I was horribly remiss in omitting in my first post.

"Never Again" by Remedy. A song about the holocaust, and the saddest song I've ever heard. Goosebumps EVERY time I hear it.
