That said, if I encounter a gurl that calls me a 'fag' and who is clearly not doing so in jest, the respect-o-meter begins to drop.

Personally, I don't give a flying fart in space if I get called a 'fag' or a 'cocksucker' or whatever derogatory term of the day prevails. It's the intent of the reference that I look for.
