I personally wouldn't kill myself, I just happen to like myself too much However, I have seen the aftermath of people that kill themselves and it is not pretty. Usually men go out in a violent manner, such as the use of high powered rifles or shotguns in their mouths. Women tend to do it in a more peaceful method (think pills) but this is not always the case. Sometimes they also go out in fucked up ways such as burning themselves. The one that affected me the most was what was left of a woman that was hit by an express train.

Either way, people should consider the fact that they will heavily traumatize a lot of people should they choose to take their own life. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just that there are considerations to be made.

I love Frisco and the Bay Area (used to live there) but it's a crying shame no one did this before....

As for what makes anyone kill themselves, Nietzche once said that the thought of suicide has helped many a person through a desperate night. He also said it was the ultimate act of personal choice.

I think you're going to see many more suicides (not self-immulation but other more pedestrian gas, gun, train exits) in the future because our recent generations are not as strongly rooted in family and community and religion, which often serve as buffers to the Great Void.

With the advent of the internet and the misperceived intimacy it fosters, as well as the isolationist aspects of modern life from IPOD to overwork to the American shame of taking vacation or questioning authority, I think that people, when faced with horrible disease, poverty or other seemingly impossible hurdles, might reason that suicide works best because they have not availed themselves of these buffers that past generations relied upon to survive.

I hope suicides don't spike. It is the saddest act. I'm quite sure my mother did it but I could never prove it - I just know it.
    great documentary.

i couldn't see myself ever commiting suicide even though i've had a few passing thoughts about it.

Don't try crusifixtion as a method of suicide, no matter how many times you try you'll never be able to hammer in the last nail.

I saw "The Bridge" in its entirety last night - not judgmental, some of the most subtle and emotive music ever (including "Man from Mars" by Joni) but it was the jumpers, of course, that tore your heart out. There were many, many beautiful shots of the bridge that on occasion, with no rhyme or reason, had a small splash that was evident. You knew someone just leapt to their death and oblivion. 24 dead in 2004 with three bodies never recovered.

The final one they kept filming. Long, long black hair blowing in the wind. You see him looking out over the water, then turning and leaning against the railing and watching cars and people go by. This went on and on in segments until at last he climbs up on the railing, stands on the railing with his back to the Bay and just teeters backwards to plunge. No horror movie can duplicate that sad madness.

Call me morbid or whatever you want, but I like watching people die. Taking your own life in such a fashion as this guy did, I think, was meant to leave a message perhaps. I would love to dissect his life and the events that lead to him going out like this. Mind you, I would never commit such an act, burning is a terrible way to go, right up there with drowning. People please, enjoy life to its fullest, no one is really in the 'situation' they want to be in. We all just struggle along and enjoy the happy moments we do have. Anyone wants someone to talk to feel free to PM me or email me.

I had a friend who was thinking of commiting suicide once, I told her I wanted to film it if she was serious and that kind of woke her up. She thought I was crazy for saying that, but hey, I wasn't going to help her, just watch, she was the one going to 'off herself' and I'm crazy? go figure, anywho. She's now a Shue Chef or however you spell it and is working in a great resturant and loving life!
