    actual crazy McCain rally lady

I am going to have to say that SNL was incorrect about Emma Goldman. It would be hard to prove that she was inciting violence, and most of her imprisonments were resulting from her distributing information on birth control (which back then, wasn't legal to inform people about).

However as far as violence goes, she did have a sexual relationship with Berkman who did like 15 years for trying to assassinate Frick after the whole homestead slaughter... and people around her in the anarchist movement had a habit of assassinating world leaders (McKinley, King Humbert etc) but she herself never really incited a riot.

But if the whole "crazy mccain lady" shows anything, its that the tactics that did McCain in during the 2000 primaries are just as effective today. McCain lost then because of grass roots callathlons trying to get racists to vote him down, they're doing the same thing in this election against Obama. Case in point I -did- watch on Faux news, months back when they were saying that Obama was educated in a radical Islamic school. These, later "retracted" stories are painfully effective and show America really isn't tolerant towards other religions. When these stories do happen to be retracted, its usually just to fact-check, i.e. to point out Obama isn't "a closet Muslim" and yet very few are actually arguing in our fourth estate that it would be alright even if Obama were islamic instead of christian.

Reading between the lines, the complaints about Obama's religion would be legitimate... if they were true.

Jon Stewart, on his Daily Show, called on his Arab correspondent to take to task McCain's reply to the crazy lady: "No, no, he's not an Arab. He's a decent, family man."

Stewart: "So...Are being Arab...And being a 'decent, family man'...Mutually exclusive?"

    Correspondent: "Yes, Jon! Most definitely!"

What I am saying is this whole "he is a closet muslim" nonsense is made of fail.

What's going on is a bunch of people are thinking Obama is a closet muslim/islamic.

They think that because a lot of people on the right have been alleging it for well over a year now. The best example of this is when Fox News broke that story about him "having been educated in a private islamic school." But since this wasn't true at all, Fox eventually retracted the story... but the damage was done, and a significant amount of people believe Obama really is somehow Islamic or Muslim.

In response to stories like this one that ran on Fox news, everyone has been responding by "setting the record straight"- i.e. explaining that no, Obama is not a muslim, he is not islamic, and he is actually christian."

The problem is, NO ONE IS ACTUALLY GOING ON TV TO SAY "it doesn't matter if he is Muslim or Islamic."

This means that, in today's America, it would be entirely "ok" for people to disqualify a presidential candidate due to that candidate's non-Christian religion.

If you remove the facade, it just goes to show how intolerant Americans -really- are when it comes to other religions. Its ok if you're a christian, provided you are a christian of some kind. But if you're an Islamic with a name that rhymes with Osama... that's supposed to override your real qualifications.

As to McCain in 2000.... in the 2000 primaries, McCain lost to Bush because the swift boat lobbyist group (then under a different name) started having these call bots phoning Americans in bible belt states to say something like "you should be aware that John McCain has a black child"- implying that he has had interracial sex and has an interracial child.

The Neo-cons are doing the same thing today against Obama, only to imply that he is a closet muslim who associates with black terrorists (see link)

In the end, I expect Obama to lose this election. I expect this not because of some voter fraud conspiracy theory, but because I know as fact that -enough- Americans still are racist on some level, and that in recent years (2000) we saw how it effected THAT election year.

Sure, a lot of you are thinking "but come on Sarah, we know that the states McCain lost due to this in 2000 were red states that would be going to a republican this time anyway."- but here's what you'd be missing:
-McCain is "one of them"- white christian old guy
    -McCain is a war hero
    -McCain is generally well respected
    -McCain's name is very WASP-like.

...and given all that, even IF McCain had an interracial daughter from a sexual relationship, he's fairly mainstream & "normal" to the GOP.

In this election you have Obama...
    -Father really was Islamic
    -Not white
    -First name rhymes with Osama
-People have been fed lies repeatedly that he's a closet Muslim himself
-People are still being fed lies that all his buddies are "black terrorists"
-Has himself called Wright his mentor
-People are still being fed lies that Wright effectively is a "black terrorist"
-Obama is somewhat tied to Acorn
-People are still being fed lies over what Acorn does (and doesn't do).

Now let's think about who usually votes. America is known for crappy voter turnout. Young people? By the stats, they simply don't vote at a rate enough to be considered politically important. Overwhelmingly the America that votes is the America that has nothing better to do on election day- retired white people. Lets use another example to show how these two demographics compare in American power distribution... it is easy enough to show with statistics that both inexperienced young drivers and seniors tend to be more dangerous on the roadways than anyone else (agree y/n?). Yet it would be political suicide to manhandle senior drivers the way we do with teenage drivers because seniors have more political power, they vote and they vote in droves. See link for some interesting stats on the American voter.

So if the typical American voter is old, white, and barely middle class (US Census tells us that the median family income of voters has threw 1996 been under $40,000)- who do you think they're going to vote for this election?
