Sorry, but Alaska is in the continental United States because it's part of the same North American Continent. The lower 48 are known as the contiguous United States because they all touch other states forming a continuous expanse.

As far as Sarah Palin being out of the continental United States:
I believe Wasilla is a suburb of Anchorage. If she ever drove to Juneau, the Capital, she probably passed through Canada somewhere along the line. Juneau's way down south in the coastal swamps. I can't personally attest to this, but I don't think you can get there by road from Alaska proper without crossing the border.
