'Arrowsmith', ecstatic? Did you write it deliberately in that way or is there a band waiting to be sued for copyright infringement?
Anyway, my favorite music styles are:
Salsa
Jazz
Merengue (some but definitely not all songs)
Dance Hall
Reggeaton (what goes for Merengue can also be said of Reggeaton)
Some ethnic kinds of music (Fado, Bhangra)
and Bachata.
I normally don't listen to other kinds of music but as always, some exceptions are invited to my harddrive as mp3.

LOL, no just typing faster than I was thinking! Aerosmith indeed. Biggest band to ever come out of Boston, you'd think I'd know better, but then I never really listened to them very much. I like this blues album of theirs, though.
And I like Steve Tyler's daughter. Ummm-hmmm. She can be my elf any time.

I love Miles, from Birth of the Cool up to Bitches Brew; that's a great album, but not half as good to my ear as his earlier work. My favorites are Sketches of Spain and Kind of Blue.
Other jazz I really dig: Coltrane (Giant Steps!), Mingus, Errol Garner, Monk, Roland Kirk, Sun Ra (when I'm in the right mood), McCoy Tyner, so many others. My favorite era is 50s cool, though I also enjoy beebop and 60s avantgarde. Not so much for swing, but I do like Goodman and Duke. Jazz-rock fusion was an interesting experiment which for me got uninteresting quickly; rock is great, but it's too limited in scope for real jazz to happen.
Oh, and my current favorite contemporary jazz artist is Patricia Barber.

There is no doubt that Miles, Coltrane, and Monk are all outstanding. For any of you who enjoy the aforementioned greats, check out Lee Morgan's Sidewinder. You will not be disappointed.

Agreed.
Lee Morgan's Sidewinder is awesome.
Check out the hard-bop era. It's post-Bop, early to late 50's...
Melodic, soulful, funky, groove music with hardcore bop-influenced improvisation riding on top.
Flat out kicks ass.
Lee Morgan
Wayne Shorter
Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers
Horace Silver
Bobby Timmons
Sonny Clark
Jimmy Smith
Hank Mobley
to name a few stellar contributors.
