Is mainstream rap dying? Yes. Why? Corporate control.
If you can manipulate the airwaves then you can control what people will have access too. They've gotten to the point where they'll settle for a hot single instead of a complete album. A lot rappers aren't getting real serious record deals from record labels. If they can't make a hot single then the relationship is over. Artist who operate like that won't last because the internet allows you to hear an album before you buy. You're not fooling anybody. Where is Hurricane Chris, or Huey? Nowhere, they lack any sort of depth. A dance hit will only carry you so far. If the mainstream continues to operate like this then it will fold. However will not die as long as people who love it seek out good artists. I mean GZA is still dropping heat. You have new guys like Blu & Exile. Cunninlynguists is reminiscent of Goodie Mob, Nappy Roots, and Little Brother. I think when less money gets pumped in then the pure profiteers will leave and find a new hustle because they never really loved Hip-Hop like that to begin with. Quality is here, you just have to look beneath the surface.

I also agree Scarface is VERY underacted,
I'd put him in my top 10, on general principle.

You can't be on top with somebody else's words coming out of your mouth. Number 2 lyrically in NWA was MC Ren.
I concur, Scarface is the TRUTH on the mic!
