I was re-reading bits of Boswell's London Journal 1762-1763 last night and the following passage caught my attention:

Of course, this is assuming that Boswell was being literal when he talked of 50 guineas. Meanwhile the same site estimates a shilling in 1762 to be worth £6.90 in today's money.
