Default HA: animosity outweighs the curiosity

I'm not part of the HA inner circle and am still a relative newcomer. I used to visit this site a lot. Lately, there is so much animosity and rancor it's a big turn off. No need to mention names, the board speaks for itself. And not all the culprits are men. Some of these TS are as aggresive and mean as the guys. This leaves me less inclined to be more involved. New years resolution: I'm going to check in periodically but not daily.

I feel I can contribute something unique. I'm a bit older than many girls, but just as serious and committed. I want to be a hot sexy woman too. I'm having rhinoplasty this month and fully intend to make myself as beautiful as possible. I'm still developing. I'm not a porn star, or a celebrity. But I'm an artist and writer and in my own way feel I can offer something fresh. However if everytime I post, I must worry about pissing this person off, or offending that person, it makes me want to participate less.

I hope this nonsense goes away in 2008. Its counter-productive. My two cents but hopefully some of you will agree. Happy new year.

Hey Melissa, I remember the hard time you were given by some posters when you first joined, so Kudos for staying around.

Sometimes I think it's a test of one's mettle on this forum when someone you absolutely don't know just tries to rip or tear into you. I say fuck 'em. They don't live my life and don't know what I'm going through. Not everyone can like everyone else and this forum is proof of it. I do know that because this is a very large forum, there's going to be a larger number of opinions. You can refresh the main general discussion page after a few minutes and a whole set of threads have been updated already unlike other forums where the same threads are left uncommented for days, even weeks. That makes this forum the most exciting and entertaining thing around, in my opinion.

I'm not a working girl, either (although I once had a porn site of my own), but like you I believe I have things to contribute. I try not to start any fires and just ignore silly people. In a sense, I'm an artist, too, in my music (some of my music was played on MTV shows like The Osbournes) and photography (I learned from the fabulous Gabe Martinez).

I really don't think you need a nose job. So many girls take plastic surgery overboard and end up looking quite cartoonish. Revel in what god and your parents blessed you with

i'm happy to see you're not giving up on us altogether melissa. do make sure you check in once in a while. the tenor of the board changes from season to season. and if i'm ever the one who's out of line, it's just a 'cause there's a loose wire or somethin...just rap me up along the side of the head, that usually fixes it.

Thank you Kalina. I've heard much about you and your Monday night parties. I've been meaning to attend. My friend Greg knows you and has said nice things. I'm only 45 minutes from Philly, so perhaps next Monday. Will there be a party?

You have to just ignore the drama that goes on. Some people, both men and womn, have no life.

I would love to see more artwork of yours!

Kudos to all the girls who put up with, ignore, or counterattack insensitive posters, and kudos to you, Melissa, for staying the course. HA is unlike the other boards, as Kalina says, because of the tremendous traffic and variety* of topics. So ignore what doesn't work for you and engage what does.

The other forums each have their own raison d'ete, and I'm very involved with several of them, but it's true that, combined, they still don't match 1/10th of the volume here. And Trish is totally right, HA goes through cycles (seasonal, or hormonal? lol), so ride out the rough waters and things get better for awhile. I've been here for about four years, so I've seen it all, as they say.

    * Or is that just number? Most topics do fall neatly into a handful of buckets...except Johnny Walker's, lol.

I was thinking the same thing.

Life is essentially one long Benny Hill skit punctuated by the occasional Anne Frank moment.

Wow, thanks. Here's two very large paintings I'm proud of:

Sadly the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

The negative and drama filled threads and
posters garner most of the attention.

It's akin to the people who stop at the scene of a
    gruesome accident.
