I am surprised how you guys overlooked The Talking Heads and The Police. Both were critically acclaimed and commercially successful bands. I was born in 85 and entered college just as the 80s revival was booming. I am a big fan of The Cure too but I love my hard rock and no band rocked harder then GNR. For all you skeptics check out some of these hits.

jesus and mary chain,echo and the bunnymen and sonic youth saw them all in 1984. And met the Pogues in 1985...am on the video....as well as meeting the Ramones in 1985.....signed all me albums.....great ear piercing gig.... gabba gabba hey!!
ohh christy almighty I forgot the late great Mr. Frank Tovey's Fad Gadget....
