Video Editing
Question for you technophiles out there. What's the easiest way to edit videos,
I know I'm not being too clear - for example, if I have downloaded a movie (one that I play in WMP Quicktime Real etc.) and I want to cut out a scene that I'm not too crazy about so I'm not wasting Hard Drive space how do I go about doing this (and issues like syncing the audio etc.)

You need to be a bit more specific.
What format video?
[assuming you're using windows]

To add to Gaurd's question, WHAT IS THE BEST VIDEO EDITING SOFTWARE OR PROGRAMME. IS THERE ANY GOOD FREE AND USER FREINDLY PROGRAMMES OUT THERE? I CAN'T BE BOTHERED TO SEARCH www.sourceforge.net but am sure there are good free downloadable programmes.
Are you also editing mpegs gaurd? they are a common format
I would like to find a programme similar to 'audacity' for audio, where i can import different file types from various sources and edit and maybe compress video.
the majority rules, and the majority are passive bitches.

There's plenty that are free, and there's plenty that are user friendly, but not many are both!
One of these should cover most of what you'll ever want to do:
Cut Assistant

Virtual Dub [not the easist to use, but there are plenty of guides]
http://www.virtualdub.org/
Asfbin

And one you probably already have, Windows Movie Maker.
It's not great, but it's simple to use.
For compressing vids take a look at the DivX & Xvid codecs

Hi, I'll try to give you a good answer here.
Jessica does all our video editing.
Many producers use Macintosh - "Final Cut Pro."
We use a program called "Vegas 7" which is the high end for Windows platform. It's a more complicated program, but provides for rendering in any format and you can control transitions and audio very precisely.
We also use Adobe Premiere and Encore for rendering. It's about $800. I dont' know how much Vegas was.
The movie editor that comes with windows is OK, but limited. And I think Mac's come with a free software insalled.
Here's a photo of Jessica's Video workstation.
And people wonder why videos cost $$.
PS - we just launched a new 5 Minute clip store - all 5 minute clips for under $5! Please visit our web site for a link to our video and DVD stores!

If you only want to cut down videos you have already downloaded, all you need is this simpel tool:
http://www.boilsoft.com/videosplitter/
It will chop what you have anywhere you tell it. VERY easy to use. There is no need to load a video editing program, edit, then render out because not only is that a waste of time, but you will lose quality when you re-render a rendered (compressed) video.
On the flip side, if you download a lot of clips that you want to join into one movie... http://www.boilsoft.com/avi-mpeg-rm-joiner.html
Same company, just as easy.
Hands down these are the best tools for doing what you want.
Trust me on this one.

If you have windows XP, it should have included Windows Movie Maker. It can split, join, mute, add sound tracks to a movie file. (doesn't work with quick time or real pleayer files).
