Re: Favorite Horror Movie Of All Time
The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre ranks up there. Very good, very artistic.... A certain level of care went into it.
Now slasher flicks are churned out like cellphones.... Ya know, get cheap actors, rush the script.... Whatever.
David Cronenberg lamented the movie industry by saying the bigger the budget the less control a director has. Which is, of course, true. And has to be. Movie studios are putting up millions of bucks. And expect a return on investment.
Tobe Hooper in '73 didn't have that undue pressure. And had creative control, as it were.
John Carpenter, another horror master, said films in the 70s had dark endings. Now ya can't do that. Because of so-called test audiences. Who demand happy endings. (Well, we all like happy endings -- ha ha ha!)

Re: Favorite Horror Movie Of All Time
In terms of actually influencing people's behaviour then Jaws wins hands down.
My Top 5 are
1. The Omen
2. Salem's Lot
3. American Werewolf in London
4. The Wicker man (original)
5. Evil Dead 2
