yall cant base your opinions of what happened from what you saw in the movie... calpernia has said that the movie is just that, a movie, w/ a script, and is ONLY based on facts ... the movie itself is not factual enough for you to say this is why this happened and that is why that happened... its a movie

It amazes me that people here are praising this pile of shit movie!!

While the plot is based on true events and is sad within itself, thats where the positive aspects ends for this insulting waste of time.

Has anyone actually seen it...and if so didnt the fact that Calpernia was played by a MASCULINE MALE actor wearing breast forms just piss you off slightly?!
Granted Calpernia in real life wasnt a stunning porn star hotty, but she wasnt bad looking either and she is fairly passable.Of course america is too ignorant to understand the plot unless her "T" is rubbed in our faces...over and over and over again.

Its the TS equivelant to Al Jolson portraying blacks cuz middle america just isnt ready to see a real TS on tv...its the powers that be deciding that if they were to cast a real passable girl in that role that middle america wouldnt get it or God forbid...might be traumatized.

Of course Al Jolson did his thing a few years back and I've read that the American society has come a long ways towards accepting and understanding minority cultures...well this movie was made recently and insulted the entire TS community, and yall sit back and take it,and espouse its virtues! And as long as the community is cool with male actors in rubber tits portraying real TS girls then I guess it will continue.

This movie insults not only the TS community but the free thinking, open minded above average intelligence common Jane and Joe too...however few there might be out there...

Actually this thread was begun about a documentary style show on A&E about Calpernia and Barry. The show is called "American Justice" and this particular episode was called "A Soldiers Story". They interviewed Calpernia and the man who swung the bat that murdered Barry. I was impressed that the shows producers and many interviewees did NOT refer to Barry as gay. It was almost exclusively military personnel who called Barry gay and even then it was not all of the military who saw the relationship between Barry and Calpernia as a "gay" relationship. I felt this was a good portrayal of the situation.

Because in our fucked-up, assbackwards society, it is more tolerable and accepted to read about men killing each other, than -- God forbid -- a man making love to whomever he wants to, such as another man or a t-girl.

    Lovely, huh?

Producers don't seem to think that America is ready for real TS's in the main stream. One reason is probably, where they get thier financing from. Still the opportunity is there for a breakout role.

Isnt the name of that movie Soldier Boy? And if I recall its only 1-2 guys that mess with him. Everyone calls him a fag but only 2 guys really pick with him. If they kill him with a baseball bat then thats Soldier Boy.

    Reality is perception.

You can click on the title of the episode above to check the A&E! information because this episode is airing right now (on the west coast).
You raise a good point that I have always wondered. What is loving a t-girl mean? ARE or AM I gay? I should say so because I love a man that lives as a woman BUT! I am not attracted to a straight (no pun intended) up man. Therefore am I GAY?

I also watched it and it sucks that this guy was killed for making another person feel loved, wanted and happy. That is the problem I had with this..not wether or not he was gay.
