I never even had mess duty in the navy, TFool...
After I VOLUNTEERED to serve my country, that is...ahem.
I was a purple shirt working on the flight deck for four years as a matter of fact, chickenhawk. Two WESTPAC cruises and a shellback to boot, chump. Lloyd's of London rates it as one of the world's most dangerous jobs.
I guess that if I had been AWOL from the National Guard though, I might have been able to pose in a never-used flight suit with a Mission Accomplished banner hanging above my head... :P
