Oh Sony!
Sony, Shunning Porn Producers, May Hurt Blu-ray Sales
Sony may have shot itself in the foot by resolving not to permit its disc duplicators to produce "adult content" on Blu-ray discs, several consumer electronics and DVD websites observed Thursday. One adult-film producer, Digital Playground, told the British online publication The Inquirer, that it had decided to switch from Blu-ray to HD DVD because "Sony has said to the replicators that if you replicate adult, you'll lose your license." The Inquirer quoted Jake Richter, an analyst at Jon Peddie Research as saying in a report to clients that many people believe that Sony's Betamax video tape format died because the adult movie industry was barred from using it. "Is Sony doomed to repeat one of the mistakes of the past? It seems like that may be the case," he wrote. Likewise, PC World magazine commented that Sony ought to "remember what happened more than two decades ago, when the adult film industry was forced to produce its content on VHS, and not Sony's Betamax." However, Martin Lynch of the IDG news service wrote that some porn produces are in fact finding Blu-ray disc manufacturers who are willing to work with them, adding, "You can say a lot of things about Sony but stupid isn't one of them. Well, most of the time anyway. There is no way that Sony can ignore the boost that porn can give the Blu-ray format." IMDb
Is anyone here going for either Blu-Ray or HD formats?

Yeah, I don't know what the fuck in wrong with Sony. I mean, there's that whole laptop battery recall, the PS3 launch was a disaster (not to mention the lies about it, no hardware scaler, no firmware to fix backwards compatibility, the whole 720p issue, etc) and now this.
I don't have an HDTV yet so for now it's pointless to adopt either format. I'd try to keep my eye on a hybrid player that plays both formats if I were looking to jump in the fray.

Another company is making an all-new DVD player that plays Blu-Ray, HD and regular DVD's.
Not forgetting that someone out there has already broken the copy-protection software on Blu-Ray and HD, which sucks for the millions of dollars invested in the software. You can download the film Serenity, in full HD.

.................................................
it's almost as if they WANT to hand over the media peripheral industry to Steve Jobs & Bill Gates
back in the 80's if you wanted to hear music you had a cassette player attached to your hip and even if it was from AIWA (remember them? lol) Panasonic, etc. people called it a Walkman because Sony pushed the name so hard that it became a staple in the industry, how they let Apple slap an lcd and a few buttons on a laptop hard drive and take over what was essentially theirs is beyond me
The problem at Sony is that the old (VERY OLD) execs that will never be forced into retirement are basically killing the company
The PS3 should have been the gaming system of our time, shame on them for designing a system that was prone to crash on multiple games
The Blu-Ray was supposed to be the 2nd coming, a DVD that is the equivalent of the original CD-ROM to the floppy diskette, now Sony is telling companies what they can & can't do with them
Apple & Big M would be wise to partner up with a 3rd company and wipe Sony away while the self inflicted wounds are still fresh

How is the Xbox 360? I was a HUGE fan of the original Xbox, but my girl at the time of it's entry bought me a PS2 so I never got one
Hollywood and my little nephew have almost gotten me psyched enough to buy the Wii, even though i HATE Nintendo, but I'm hesitant after having to take my nephew out on Xmas day to get some batteries for the remotes for that thing
