Mariah Carey is certainly one of a kind so why would she bother to file a lawsuit against a porn actress turned politician turned budding singer just because her name sounds like her own is
beyond the power of comprehension of many. And yet, that is exactly what she did.

Mary Carey (real name, Mary Cook) is probably best known for running for the office of California governor in 2003, against 'Terminator' actor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Although she did not win, Mary came in tenth out of over 100 candidates. This year, she gave politics another shot, but she was forced to back off the race to take care of her ailing mother.

Besides being a big name in the porn industry, with movies like 'Boobsville Sorority Girls' on her resume, Miss Mary is also trying now to launch a music career. For the moment, this is being hindered by a lawsuit Mariah filed against her, asking her to change her stage name and/or use it only in the porn industry.

According to a statement made by Mariah's publicist, having two Careys in the music business would be more than confusing for young fans, who would be easily tempted to believe that Mariah is, in fact, Mary. This is supported even by a striking physical resemblance, with both of them being fans of short mini skirts, tight tops and blonde and straight hair.

'Mary Carey and Mariah Carey share the identical surname and have first names that are very similar. Confusion between your client and her Mary Carey trademark and our client and its Mariah Carey trademark is therefore likely.', the statement said.

However, the one-time politician will not give up her name with such ease, no matter how many legal battles she has to fight. Mary says that changing her name will practically change nothing because she is already famous under it. So, according to her, moving from one field to another (meaning, from making porn to making music) should not affect the diva, whom she describes as being plain old 'silly'.

'I'm ready to battle Mariah over this because I've been Mary Carey for a long time. It's kind of funny because I'm a porn star and I've been being myself for a long time. I think she's being silly.', the porn star said during a press conference, immediately after she was served with the legal papers.

I doubt Mary Carey would give Mariah any competition...at least not in the music industry. But I'm sure that if Mariah decided to do porn then perhaps Mary might get a good run for her money. The way Mariah runs around in all her videos with the short skirts and bikinis it probably wouldn't be too big a jump for her. So, I think Mary should countersue Mariah and ask her to change her name instead. :P

Other than that, I don't think they look so much alike that Mariah should have anything to worry about. And if Mariah's fans can't tell the difference between her and Mary then maybe they're just too stupid to know the difference to begin with.
