European Socialists promised on Thursday to work to rebuild Europe's strategic alliance with the United States now that the Democrats control Congress after last month's elections.


Socialist leaders attending a meeting of the European Socialist Party pledged that with the Democrats on the rise, strong ties could be renewed with the United States after years of cool relations with Republican President George W. Bush.


Howard Dean, chairman of the national committee of the U.S. Democratic Party, is attending the two-day conference together with the leaders of leftist governments of several countries and party leaders from across Europe.


"We are not anti-American, we want the real America, your America," former Danish Prime Minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, president of the European Socialist Party, said in remarks directed at Dean.


The Democrats gained control of both houses of Congress for the first time since 1994 in the mid-term elections, reshaping the political landscape ahead of the 2008 presidential race.

So Howard Dean finally pulls the trigger on his presidential ambitions LOL. At least chump change realizes that he has about the same appeal as Jon Carry and even less chance a being legitimately elected.

Maybe he's officially thrown in with the socialists so they can LEGISLATE him the presidency the same way they legislate people a living?

well, european politics is not really your field of knowledge

european socialists..... that´s only two words, amigo. there´s no difference in economy politics between the self-entitled socialists and the conservatives. it´s not like in america where conservatives try to ban abortion or forbid gay marriages. all that count´s is money and they follow the same path.

the only leftist movement here are the communists and partly the greens (depends on countries).

most of the "socialist" parties go under the name social-democratic. they´re not socialists and not even social-democrats. they are money makers (for themselves).
