Avn Award Nominations are Announced

There are lots of messages saying people don't understand the nomination process.

It's pretty clear from comments how nominations get filtered after they are made.

But can anyone explain exactly WHO gets to enter nominations and how many? (Before Seanchi's get filtered out, of course).

I think that to get a nomination that really gets you recognized it needs to come from a major company who does alot of business. Not only for AVN magazine but also has a high turn around.
Devils has hits with every movie basically, so does Evil Angel. There is no one in here who can say they movie is crap - I am sorry - every tranny chaser should own one of their movies.

Smaller companies do not have the means to advertize or to spend on a good quality scene with girls who are popular for their passibility and also for their nasty scenes.

Take one of me and Vicki's scene, especially this latest one that will be on her DVD release next year... It is some nasty shit we did. It's not about kissing Shemale Yum's ass or Groobie or whoever ... It is about advertizement, having a gimmic, star quality talent with strong performances, making something different then what has already been done, and above all - QUALITY VS QUANTITY

Danielle, great post and it would be excellent if AVN actually followed your points here. Obviously Rogue Adventures which are pretty much the best stuff out there would be nominated but Joey even admits his Road Trip series is is 2nd best stuff, the stuff that doesn't make the cut for Rogue (although Road Trip DVD's are miles ahead of most other DVD releases).
It would be great if they did base it on theme based releases, on the DVD's that try and do something a bit difference and who put hot stars in their DVD's (which is why we put forward our nomination for Danielle Foxx last year for her sloppy, outrageous blowjob in the Buddy Wood first release) but when you see generic junk like Samba Mania, Hung Like a Whore 3, Trantastic, Loaded then you know, very little criteria has been followed.

I've exchanged a few emails with the editor of AVN, Paul Fishbein, in the last two days over the criteria and even he admits "it's a numbers game" on so many DVD's being submitted. A company would be better off submitting all their body of work then just selecting the best - maybe if we'd done that we'd have got a nomination this year (as in previous years) but we followed the directions.

I'm not sure where your comment about kissing Grooby/Shemale Yum's ass came from - I know for sure, I don't get my ass kissed off many of the girls but if it's referring to why Yasmin never got a nomination, the last thing she done was "kissed our ass" - she deserved a nomination based not only on the work she done for us but also on Joey's DVD's as well as multiple others in which she excelled - when I see performers in the list who done one or two performances which never set the screen alight in average videos, then I know the criteria is based on more than individual performances - just as you know from experience that big companies like EA can push through the performer they want to be associated with that year.

I agree with what you're stating but when we nominate a DVD that is rated 4-stars by AVN, themed (schoolgirls - set in classrooms), with all-American talent in excellent scenes, and it doesn't get nominated yet 2.5-3 star DVD's with mediocre S.American scenes get the nomination, then something is very wrong.
