The term Piefke tracks back to the era of Prussians (Preussen) that is North Germany today and northern parts of Poland. Piefke is a name and has its roots in the Slavic (probably Polish?) word Piwka that means beer.

I don´t know how it became a general term for the German but we like to call them Piefke
