    As it says, monkeypox has been around for 50 years in Africa and should have been fairly easy to control, given it's not very contagious and there's an effective vaccine.     I agree that the messaging hasn’t been effective and health officials have been too cautious in their warnings. For example, they aren’t saying that the current PCR test requires swabbing an active lesion, but those don’t develop for about two to three weeks following exposure, so someone who’s been infected can unknowingly pass MPX along for several weeks. They also aren’t consistently telling people that condoms don’t effectively protect you from MPX exposure [compared: to how well they protect against conventional STIs]
