My local Benihana removed their glory hole and everybody I've talked to about it is pretending that it never existed.

The weirdest part is that the next closest Benihana still has their glory hole so it's clearly not a corporate decision.

I didn't know Benihana still existed, I don't think it does in the UK -there used to be one at Swiss Cottage in North London. I assume they are still famous for 'doing it in front of you', but do they use woks, or frying pans as delightful as the one that I bought last year?

I'll just say I remember when I thought all Japanese food was Teppan and that Sushi was an exotic food.

Being born in the 80s means having gone to crappy Teppan restaurants with koi ponds in front and watching some hack nearly light your relatives on fire while undercooking the shrimp. By the 90s the charm was wearing off and they were flinging the food at you and by the time you were in high school you were savvy enough to joke about which girl at your table was most willing to open her mouth but didn't yet know that was sexist of you and mean. Anyone? It's been a while since I've seen a benihana.
