Re: Maradona is Dead
In my opinion the GOAT..
Pelé is more powerful and goal-hunter but Maradaona is pure genious...a funambolist

Re: Maradona is Dead
From a footballing point of view, the greatest of his generation.
From a human point of view, an absolute zero.
Personally, I won't miss him.
PS: I would have expected to read about Adriano or Ronaldo rather than Maradona on these pages, given the topic of this forum...

Re: Maradona is Dead
With a low centre of gravity, pace, and a fearless approach to the oncoming defence, Maradona had a lethal ability to win games.
Compare his physical game to the elegance and artistry of Pele, the instant creativity of goal-scoring opportunities, the accuracy of his passing game, the superior record in World Cup Football. Because he was the star of my youth, I go for Pele.
In the end it is a matter of taste -for me Pele is simply the finest footballer of the last 100 years, but how can one make these judgments when there have been so many superb goalkeepers without whom a game would have been lost, or the men who control a game so that others can score and win -England's Bobby Moore in 1966, for example?
Yes, Maradona was a phenomenon, he was a superb footballer, but he is not a lone figure, but in illustrious company.
PS, I make no further reference to the darker side that inserted him into the Comorra in Naples, other than to say of that truly dismal city- 'it goes with the territory'.

Re: Maradona is Dead
Smote by the hand of God.
Not a fan of the guy personally, just a bit of an twat - and a cheat - but if you get a chance to see 'Diego Maradona' documentary by Asif Kapadia (who also made the excellent 'Senna' and 'Amy') then do so. I understood it better, and became a lot more sympathetic to him overall and was reminded was an utterly brilliant footballer he was.
