Default Panic Buying Loo Roll ...

The Coronavirus outbreak has triggered panic buying here in the UK, in particular of loo roll or butt wipe.

Has this phenomenon hit the US yet?

Personally I'm not fussed about loo roll as I'm just using old US flags to wipe my arse. It's about all they're good for these days ...

This has also happened in Australia, and not just toilet paper. When I went to the supermarket yesterday there were lots of empty shelves - no pasta, rice, etc. We may be facing an extraordinary situation with this pandemic for months, and I'm afraid this sort of panicked reaction does not augur well for peoples' ability to cope with it

Why use paper anyway? Buy a water jet, attach it to the sink, and flush. Gives a passing pleasure to that essential moment in the loo...

Its happened here in the United States too. I went to the supermarket last Friday and the shelves in both the pasta and the toilet paper aisles were bare. Supermarkets have had to change their ours so they can re-stock. One is opening early only for people 60 and older so they can shop in peace.

Actually managed to buy some loo roll at the Co-op today and facial tissues at Morrison’s yesterday.

items currently difficult to obtain are paracetamol, sanitiser gel, soap, toilet cleaner/bleach, bread, pasta and associated sauces. frozen goods also looking a bit thin.

methinks they should have introduced limits last week

It's got nothing to do with that. This is how capitalism works in a crisis when every person is left to look out for themselves. The purchase limits that have been imposed are actually a socialistic solution. A crisis like this is not a good time for small government idealogues.
