Sylvia Rivera and the Stonewall sisters, the anvil on which a new phase of the sexual revolution was forged, and so cruelly dismissed by the gay men who looked down on them.

Caroline Cossey, Eva Robins and Romy Haag (one time girlfriend of David Bowie) -actors who proved it is possible to be transexual and act in mainstream films- Cossey in a James Bond film, the latter two in Mascara (1987) a film that as far as I know has never been translated into DVD.

Add Holly Woodlawn to the list, even if the films were poor.

This will be a name very few here will know, but Babs Siperstein is a personal hero. She was a transgender rights activist in NJ and responsible for much of the legislation that makes NJ such a great state for trans rights. She passed away recently and it's been a huge loss here in NJ.

    Legendary Scouser April Ashley.

The exhibition on her in Liverpool a few years back was interesting and inspiring.

I'm not sure how many of the girls on here that perform would claim that they set out to be influential. Inspiring perhaps, giving confidence to other girls (as Lily mentioned).

I think someone like Hannah Graf (nee Winterbourne), the British army officer could be described as influential. She is able to make transgender issues more mainstream which is surely a good thing.

On top of that, she married an FtM transgendered man, which surely scores her extra points ...
