...you could have just used their definition of the word itself:

which in their book is an adjective. Come back in a few years and it may also be listed as a noun as language is dynamic and evolving.

So transgender is an adjective even though gender is a noun, but transsexual is a noun even though sexual is an adjective. Any English professors here that can explain this?
