I can relate to this because in the days before the internet something else had to stimulate the curiosity/interest. In my case it began with television, then real life, but definitely the 'street scene' which did not exist in London until at least the 1990s (a few girls in the vicinity of Earls Court underground station) but which brought you face to face with women you did not think existed.
