There are several definitions of the word black. I'm are you asking me to look up the dictionary definition or the historical definition based on race? The whole concept of race was invented to be demeaning. It's all racist in its origin so no matter what we call ourselves, it's going to be rooted in racism/the concept of race. I'm still calling myself black.

Society has twisted a name rooted in intense hate and racism & has turned it into a term of endearment.

In a perfect world, that word wouldn't be uttered as much as it is today. I also understand the hatred and racism that is associated with it. I mean some white people will use it to describe other races by putting a geographical region before it.

I think the movement to empower the word as a term of endearment started out with the best of intentions. But we all know what happens with the best of intentions. I think all its done is to help make race relations worse.

As I stated before, I hardly eveer use the word and I have never used the version with the "a" at the end when I'm talking to another black person. The same goes for my friends and family.

But at the same time, I can't get bent out of the shape every time I hear the word being uttered around me. Its basically become white noise to me at this point.

Will ever see a day when black people will stop using that word among themselves? Probably not. Remember that funeral that was held for it over 10 years ago?
