But a site like Lynn Conway's would certainly refer to "Successful Trans Women" because of their success in many fields, such as medicine, business, and science.
The whole PC, uptight thing has really run its course. Who the hell is one "trans womAn" to take it upon herself to say what everyone else is. And she has no fucking problem calling men who are attracted to "trans women, tgirls, etc", tranny chasers? What a condescending, hypocritical moron.

    Okay, I feel better now.

Oh, and shemale is derogatory when used outside the context of porn, heck, I even find it a turnoff when used inside the context of porn. But that's me...

Knowing what I know now, I would never use the term. I'd just call her a woman, lady, or girl.

shemale is just a word. every derogatory word is just a word. words only have power if people react to them. i am a puerto rican male and if someone calls me a spic, i don't pay it attention. even if deep down it makes my blood boil. why? because as soon as i pay attention to the word it now has power. if you just mock the word or resist giving it power, its now only a word. i don't think jumping down anyone's throat about being called that is productive. simply stating what you prefer to be referred to as is the best approach. shemale might say porn to you, but so many people use it innocently because its so easy to find that word. if you google "shemale forum" HA is the third result. if you google "transwoman forum" it doesn't show up. weird, eh?

As you can tell I have no problem with the word, although when addressing or speaking about someone in particular I wouldn't use it or even think of using it.

I had never heard the term until it was used to put me down. I was walking from Asheville to West Asheville several years back when a man with a thick mountain accent told his kid to ignore me, cuz I was just "one of them Sheeemales". I had never heard the term before and coming out of his mouth it was absolutely repulsive.

Besides, how is a she-male phonetically different than female? The word makes no sense and in my opinion is damaging. That said, I also think its kind of funny, and occasionally will use it within the context of a joke.

Word of advice guys, if you wanna impress a trans-woman, drop it from your vocab. Pronto. Also, don't tell us we are being too sensitive, have some fucking respect.

Drop it from my vocab? Why? There are tons of offensive words I know (a few I use) that I don't outright use to disrespect or hurt others. "Bitch" can be an extremely offensive word to women but I hardly see men dropping it from their vocab, even if they rarely use it. btw, no offense at all. I would never refer to anyone here as such. esp not a respectable cutie such as yourself.

Because female is a term for a gender whereas shemale refers to transexuals as feminine males which is practically the ultimate disrespect.

If I had to do it over over again, I would have not have named my site shemaleexotica- Actually, it went through many incarnations, but at the time in 2000- it seemed like a good marketing too and catchy name.

It's really just a porn thing- and I never use the term. To me it's only a fantasy term.

I personally do not like to be called a shemale, tranny, tgirl, or anything else. If someone is speaking of my gender, I just like transsexual woman.

I am however not offended by any of the above.
