I don't use the word myself. I prefer to use transexual, transgendered, girl, lady, woman, tg, ts etc... The word shemale just seems a little rude, but thats just my personal opinion

The word isnt important to mee.. i see nothing wrong whit shemale...ordinary wee have male and female so why not shemale?

It's a word created by the porn industry. It's a porn word and has those connoctations with it.

I agree with seanchai. When a girl working in the porn biz uses the term, she takes possession of it: see Vicki Richter for a prime example. But outside porn, I think it's demeaning because of the porn associations. "Chicks with dicks" is even more demeaning. Tgirl is much more acceptable, particularly for a pre-op or non-op girl, imho.

I once wrote to a site which bashing men as 'tranny chasers'. I used the term 'tgirl' in my correspondence. The person took offense, saying that they were 'trans women'. She seemed very uptight to me. However, I think of the term tgirl as more for casual and recreationl type of activities, like boy is used for boys night out. But a site like Lynn Conway's would certainly refer to "Successful Trans Women" because of their success in many fields, such as medicine, business, and science.
