R.I.P. Hugh Hefner

There was a time in the United States when pornography was considered illegal, immoral, obscene, and could be used as propaganda in the war against Communism. Hugh Hefner helped removed that stigma.

If you're a male of a certain age, you remember that thrill you had when you saw your first Playboy. Didn't matter if it was one in your father's nightstand or one you found it in the woods, it was a unofficial rite of passage.

Did pornography exist before Playboy? Yes. Was Playboy tame compared to other magazines like Hustler and High Society? Yes. But none of those facts and/or views diminish the impact that Hugh Hefner had on society. He was the right man and it was the right publication to help knock down walls of ignorance when it came to sex and sexuality in the United States.

i don't remember if playboy was my first porn, but i do remember the images of the centerfold- either bo derek or farrah fawcett (can't remember since i had a crush on both)- but i remember those images being crucified onto my brain like- being given a barometer and someone's pointing to the highest degree you can measure.

good thing cheryl ladd wasn't in playboy (was she?) otherwise i wouldn't have a dick today.

also: does anyone else find it funny that the guy that owns twinkies now owns the playboy mansion? i can already picture him right now walking through the mansion pointing at random pieces of art and furniture and going "all this just has to go!"
