I am very much alive and was never impressed by Playboy's plastic pseudo-porn. As for the Sexual Revolution, that, to me was a book published (in German) by Wilhelm Reich in 1936. If you had a genuine interest in the history of sex, from Roman bath-houses to the effeminates (mukhanathun) of Medina in the time of Muhammad, the rampant queers of the Qing dynasty in China, to the Molly Houses of London in the 17th century, to the Lesbian and trans-queer clubs in Paris and Berlin in the 1930s, to the (to me) fabulous transexual whores who plied their trade on the mean streets of Naples, Milan and Paris in the 1970s, you would recognize Hefner for the one-dimensional prick that he was. It was a simple point -whatever Hefner achieved with Playboy it was small, the 1950s was a dull decade and the interpretation of free speech in the US was not as broad as it has since become, and there are plenty of examples from history and geography of 'sexual revolution' -and the forces that wish to stop it, such as the arrests this week of LGBTQIAPN/B people in Azerbaijan, which I won't support with a reference from the Guardian as I am sure you know about it anyway. I was merely trying to put Playboy in a broader context. I never bought it, and still think the photo spreads are tame and airbrushed out of reality but I guess that is a matter of taste. Other than that I thank you for your support.
