Re: Not Enough Black American T-Girls in the industry
It really is that bad. People see trans with a high presence, and behind 'straight', 'gay' porn and they think it's a small step-down, but if it was an inverted pyramid with straight porn at the top, then trans is pretty near the pointy end at the bottom. The ceiling is just that low on potential members (like trans, like porn, willing to pay for porn). So thank you for supporting us, without members like you there would be even less produced.
DVD sales have dropped off a cliff, we still make them but usually they are content already budgeted and paid for on the websites, so it's extra gravy for us and also gets us some licensing deals and VOD sales. To produce a DVD like Joey does (or like our Mona Wales features) is very expensive - and doesn't pay back. Joey is shooting more Thai stuff and I think Brazilian, as it's still cheaper.
You are probably seeing sites come up from other companies (especially mainstream porn companies) and this has happened before, they're seeing trans in mainstream media and thinking they can make some money out of the trend. I guarantee they will mostly fail.
Look at all the other bigger trans companies, they are having problems. Self-produced and owner-ran (and I mean this with complete respect), 'Mom and Pop' sites, like what Christian is doing with his TSPov and PureTS, what Mayumi is doing with TwoTgirls.com, and what a lot of the models are doing on Many Vids, or their own clips stores seems to be the way to go for many.

You're obviously knee deep in the industry groobysteven. You have the real data but even accedotally your statements are proven. I think of Reddit, there's a decent sized community and when ever there's a black girl there's very little interest.

Re: Not Enough Black American T-Girls in the industry
the toughest TS girls to convince to do a sex scene on camera are escorts. there are so many beautiful black TS girls all over the US, but they are just going to laugh at whatever number you throw at them for a scene. Joey Silver and Jay Sin used to throw big money at amateur black TS girls but those days are over. Those guys can make similar money using girls that cost less

Re: Not Enough Black American T-Girls in the industry
Wow, navigating the porn industry, especially in a relative 'niche' industry like trans porn is mind boggling.
I remember there were once 'superstars' like Vaniity and Kim Devine. While Mia Isabella (a few years ago) and Chanel Santini (now) are stars also, it seems like content has shifted to more amateur content. Many webcam shows nowadays are often better quality than the $20 dvds from 20 years ago.
However, I've always enjoyed Christian's content, he not a tattooed meathead and tends to treat the girls with respect.

Re: Not Enough Black American T-Girls in the industry
I wouldn't say it's 'shifted to more amateur content' - I think that's just another option and much of it's very good. What the contraction in the industry has done, is like any industry where the pie gets smaller, is separate the wheat from the chaff. Many of the content producers that are either better at the content or more importantly, understand what their customer want, are thriving as their competitors can't keep up.
Tgirls.porn, Femout.XXX are examples of sites that we've launched in the past few years, which hit a smaller demo-graph but have done extremely well. Not only do the members like those sites, there are many models who want to be on Tgirls.porn and Femout.XXX (as well as TSCastingCouch.com) are sites which are not only working well, but helping bring new models into the industry. When we identified that Shemales-From-Hell (soon to have a name change) wasn't performing as well as it could, we combined it with Brazilian-Transsexuals into one package giving members of both sites more reason to stick around longer and lowered the production cost. It's a win-win for everyone.
ShemaleYum and Black-TGirls we've spent most of this year, making changes on and instead of trying to be competitive with everyone else, we've decided to focus on what those sites mean to the members (or potential members) and how to make them as happy as we can. The changes we've made by helping identify models to return faster, by working with unique and authentic models as well as bringing back people like Domino, Morgan, etc. on ShemaleYum and adding the new cumshot special scenes to both sites (and next to Shemale.XXX) have really helped and the feedback and increase in sales is really shown.
As I suggested before though, the largest elephant in the room, is that trans niche is a very small niche. If you're going to break into it and be successful you need to have something unique or different and be able to deliver it, to enough customers willing to pay for it. A trans website can take 3-5 years before it becomes profitable (compared to 3 months in 1999) and that's a big outlay for anyone.
Back to the Black American Tgirls. I'm all ears if people have suggestions for either new sites or what we can do to improve ours, that are sensible, that appeal to more than a handful of people and can at least cover the budget to shoot them.
